Excavating Services

How Excavation Companies Operate

There are a number of different ways that excavation companies can help you either with site work preparing for a construction job or correcting problems caused by earlier projects. They are trained in handling the ground in the area and know how to safely and correctly dig a foundation or crawlspace, trench footing, auger piers, or remove issues below the surface. Because this can be both difficult and dangerous, though, it’s a good idea to first make sure you get an expert before moving forward with your project.

The Process

Depending on the kind of job that you need done, there are several ways to approach it. That being said, there are some things that excavation companies generally do or find it necessary to take care of before they can start digging.

Often, somebody wants to build on land that hasn’t been touched in a long time, and as a result they find that before they can even begin an excavation, they’ll need to start with brush clearing. Because of this problem, there are several excavation contractors who will not begin a project unless the land is ready for them, which is why it’s a good idea to hire a land clearing company that can also handle excavation work.

In some cases, a professional was brought in to do land clearing in the first place, but they didn’t think ahead to problems that might be faced with the techniques they used. So, for example, they may have cleared the space with a hydro axe, which will get rid of brush on the surface but leave root systems untouched where they can grow through foundations, landscaping, or sidewalks. Then a completely different sort of excavation project may be necessary to take care of those.

Choosing Between Excavation Companies

There are so many businesses that do excavation, it can be difficult to pick the one that is going to do the most good for you. There are a few things you can look for, though.

First, you want a company that has been around for a while. Even though a contractor who is new in town may be good, the fact of the matter is that they don’t have the experience working with dirt in the area and may not be able to handle it safely or efficiently.

Second, make sure that you choose people who will work with you, like the folks here at Guenther Contracting. We will take the time to explain to you what’s going on and how they plan to handle your project. Of the many excavation companies, we’re the ones who have both the knowledge and willingness to make sure you understand what’s going on with your property.
